Weight Loss Success

Gratefulness and thankfulness for the new journey my life is taking. I’m home a month now—lost about 8 more pounds from eating and exercising regularly – “mindful” and “boundaries” being two powerful new words for me. GM set me on a ship I built myself with new knowledge of myself, nutrition, food and exercise. Thank you!

I came to Green Mountain with a cane and crawled up and down the stairs on hands and knees. By the 4th day I no longer used my cane and was climbing stairs regularly. I still need knee surgery. But Green Mountain gave me my health back. From the first day I was given an individualized plan to deal with my orthopedic problems and debilitated state. I stopped having cravings and lost weight (26 pounds in 2 weeks) for the first time in 20+ years. I also lost 12.5 inches. The Green Mountain program of eating regularly to lose weight was the key for me. The fitness staff was expert and knowledgeable about accommodations I needed. I also made multiple friends I feel I will have for a lifetime. Thank you Green Mountain for giving me a future.

Weight and movement have been a problem for me for 44 years. I thought I had finally become an old woman. By the end of 2 weeks I was bouncing and smiling like the child I left behind. The world has opened up to me again.

I ate healthy meals, exercised and lost weight and inches, but the best part was feeling healthy again! The sensitive and intelligent interaction of participants and staff was cleansing and refreshing.

I would also like to tell you that since I was at Green Mountain at Fox Run 2 years ago, I have lost about 50 pounds, and lost 3-4 clothing sizes (from a size 18 to a 12/14), and had a breast reduction. The weight loss has almost totally alleviated the severe arthritis I had in my feet from chronic lyme disease. I walk 4-6 miles almost daily, I do Pilates at home, I belong to a gym, I ride my bike, and I have taken golf lessons this summer. I did two walks for charity this fall and raised $500 for the Boston University Scleroderma Research Fund and $250 for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. I turned 50 this year and I feel 35!!! I could never have done all this without the weight loss and breast reduction, and it is because of "mindful eating" and a whole shift in the way I think about how I spend my time...exercising. LynnAnn is still in my head, talking about excuses and choices...wow, she was good!

I am now 49 years old and look/feel 10 years younger! I have maintained my 120 weight/ 5'6'' without dieting over all these years. Like so many young college girls, I put on the "Freshman 20" pounds going from 120 to 140. By my junior year I had blossomed to 152 pounds until I read about your program in a magazine. Continued...

This August marks 11 years since I left Green Mountain. I was there for four months. I have been wanting to write you for a long time. I have lost 110 pounds and kept it off all these years. I can't thank you enough.

Green Mountain changed my life! I kept losing and gaining the same 50 pounds until I went to Green Mountain at Fox Run. I have now kept off the 50 pounds for 12 years and I feel great. Green Mountain teaches you a new way to think about food and how to incorporate exercise in to your life. I used to weigh 175 pounds and now I weigh 125. I was able to get back to the 125 pound weight even through 2 pregnancies by utilizing the Green Mountain philosophy on losing and maintaining weight loss as well as their approach to healthy living. I would recommend Green Mountain to any woman looking to get control over their eating, any woman looking to lose weight and keep it off PERMANENTLY, or to any woman who wants to feel better about herself and her body!

I just wanted you to know that I began once again losing weight in 2003. 40 pounds gone! I was with you in 2000 and had maintained the weight loss achieved during my two weeks there. However, I put my life on hold during my father's final days. I have continued to use the lessons learned from you, with emphasis on exercise, and it's doing the trick! I have even managed to not gain weight during tax season! So, thank you for all your efforts!

When I went to Green Mountain April 2003, I wanted to lose weight for my son's wedding which was last weekend. I did not achieve my total goal, but I lost 14 pounds, and it looked and felt like more because of my workouts and strength training. But more importantly, I felt good about myself and knew that it was more than achieving a weight loss for a specific day. I will keep going to the gym and working out and eating mindfully and feeling good about myself.

I got home on Saturday and we all had Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday... it was pretty nice, my kids did almost all of the work (can't beat that!!!). I stayed at Green Mountain for almost seven weeks and lost 25 pounds, gained a LOT of strength and am feeling pretty cocky!

I am an alumni from the early days of Green Mountain. You got me started in a life style change and I look forward to returning again someday. Now I work out about 5 days a week and work hard at keeping a 65lb weight loss in check. Thanks so much.

Things are going well for me. I can't believe my whole new attitude towards food. It's there if I want it and I usually don't. I even have shortbread, butter tarts and gumdrop cookies in my cupboards (the Christmas baking bug bit) and I am not going crazy. Mindfully having one piece but only when I really want it. I am starting 2003 carrying about 25 pounds less weight around then when I met you all in September. It is slow but so painless, I really can't believe it. I can count the numbers of days on one hand when I haven't felt energized. It used to be that I rarely had an energy filled day.

I want to thank you for a wonderful, life changing experience at Green Mountain. I learned how to eat, what to eat, how to exercise, and how to live a healthier life. I have truly changed my way of facing each morning and am a happier, healthier person. I walk 3 miles at least 5 days a week and have been good about mindful eating. I feel great in my skin, and although it is not about the scale, I have lost 25 pounds and am very proud of myself. My shoes are looser, my rings are falling off, my clothes are loose and I get compliments everyday about how good I look. Thanks for helping me to face my 40's a lot healthier.

"I'm so glad that I made the choice to go to Green Mountain when I did. It changed my whole life."
Rita Solomon, Roslyn, NY

It’s been 18 years since I first attended Green Mountain’s program as a then 19 year old sophomore in college. Today, I’m an attorney, wife and mom to two young girls, and Green Mountain has changed all of our lives.

Coming from a home where food was used to quell emotions, to celebrate and commiserate, I only knew how to diet or overeat. In my childhood home food was only deep fried, high in fat or from a restaurant. Sadly every child developed an eating disorder.

I’m so glad that I made the choice to go to Green Mountain when I did. It changed my whole life. I learned how to lose weight without dieting or beating myself up, but much better than that, I learned to think differently about myself, how to balance my life (and work), and how to never lose sight of my own needs, despite what was going on.

I now walk almost every day. I have maintained my goal weight for 12 years. I am able to make healthy choices for myself and most importantly to teach my children how to make healthy choices and how NOT to diet!!!

Looking back at the experience I had as a teen now with my “mother eyes”, I see how my kids benefit too – I can offer them a choice of strawberries or strawberry ice cream, and most often they choose the strawberries, since food is not polarized in our house between “good” or “bad” – it’s just food. I can’t describe how this makes me feel – knowing that I’ve saved my kids the stress of becoming obsessed with food and weight and their bodies, especially having 2 girls.

Every day I see so many children and adults yo-yo dieting and how miserable they are making themselves, and I thank Thelma, Alan and the entire Green Mountain staff for making Green Mountain a reality and for saving my life!!!
